Monogramm -
quintessential show horse and superlative sire - the unparalleled global
ambassador for Arabian type, trot, quality and charisma.
Still
considered one of the most dynamic show horses of all time, Monogramm
represents for many Arabian enthusiasts a near ideal image of the
Arabian stallion. His hallmark features are his charismatic presence,
unparalleled quality, a show stopping trot and undeniably one the most
beautiful and perfectly sculpted heads ever seen on an Arabian stallion. Add
to these qualities a wonderfully shaped, elegantly arched neck, strong
coupling, outstanding tail carriage and a powerful, ground covering stride,
and it is easy to understand why Monogramm was always the crowd
favorite as soon as he hit the ring.
It
is exactly these qualities that piqued the interest of the Polish breeders
during
Monogramm's most memorable bid for National Champion Stallion. Impressed
as they were with his phenotype, they were equally
enthusiastic about his
pedigree, as Monogramm represented the perfect opportunity to finally
incorporate the blood of *Bask back into the Polish breeding program after
over thirty years since his exportation to North America. A two year lease
was negotiated with Michalow State Stud in Poland and under the masterful
guidance of Director Ignacy Jaworowski, Monogramm began siring the first of
his Polish-bred foals in 1994. After two years at stud, and several more
seasons with frozen semen, Monogramm has given Michalow an unprecedented
number of world-class offspring, many of whom have dominated the European
show scene. Just five years after their European debut, the Monogramm
get
swept the World Championships at the Salon du Cheval in 2000,
winning the
titles of: World Champion Stallion - Ekstern; World Champion Mare - Zagrobla;
World Reserve Champion Mare - Kwestura; as
well as World Junior Champion Filly -Emmona. Never before has one stallion
been the sire of an astounding FOUR World Champions.
This unprecedented accomplishment is likely to remain
unchallenged well into the next century, if indeed it is challenged at all.
Add to that the pride of winning yet again in 2001 with Fallada as World
Reserve Champion Mare and highest point score of the entire show; back to back
European Mare Championships with Kwestura and Zagrobla; consecutive All
Nations Cup Mare Championship honors with Kwestura and Zagrobla; European, All
Nations Cup and Polish National Champion Stallion titles for Ekstern; as well
as Polish National Champion and All Nations Cup Reserve Champion Stallion wins
for Ganges and it is apparent that Monogramm and Michalow are on a major roll.
Monogramm's
significance as a sire is most apparent in Poland, where
Monogramm must rightly be considered one of the
greatest sires in the history of Polish breeding. What he was able to
accomplish in just two seasons at only one of the State Studs is
nothing short of legendary. As his grandsire *Bask was able to raise the
standard of Arabian in North America in 60’s, Monogramm was able to breathe
new life into an already stellar breeding program, and establish an
unparalleled level of excellence not only in Poland, but in all of Europe.
Much praise has been lauded upon the Monogramm
daughters, as they are undeniably the most beautiful group of mares to be
found anywhere in Poland, Europe and perhaps the entire world.
As
a sire, Monogramm has been amazingly prepotent. He consistently stamps his
foals with: model Arabian type with especially dry and beautifully sculpted
heads; length, leanness and wonderfully graceful suppleness through the
throatlatch and poll; an abundance of show ring charisma, confidence and that
intangible quality we define as “presence”; a superior level of quality and
refinement; and that trademark Monogramm animated and ground-covering trot.
These are very much the traits that describe Monogramm the individual – that
he is able to transmit these qualities with remarkable consistency across a
broad range of genotypes and phenotypes (in the mares he has covered) is his
true legacy to the Arabian breed.
The
Monogramm influence is spreading around the world through his Polish-bred get,
with over 95 champions and
counting in nearly 20 countries across the globe,
including 45 National winners and 67 champions at the
Regional level. Monogramm’s success as a sire across several diverse and
demanding disciplines is most impressive. He has sired winners at the Regional
and National level in virtually every discipline in which Arabian horses
compete:
English Pleasure, Country English Pleasure, Pleasure
Driving, Country Pleasure Driving, Western Pleasure, Hunter
Pleasure, Ladies Sidesaddle, Show Hack, Native Costume,
Dressage, Working Hunter, Jumpers,
Reining,
Working Cow Horse, Equitation, Walk/Trot, Western
Horsemanship,
Sport Horse in
Hand and
Sport Horse Under Saddle.
Not only have his get scored major wins in the open divisions of nearly all
these divisions, they have been equally successful in the all important
Amateur Owner and Junior Owner divisions. This,
perhaps more than anything else, is the greatest testament to Monogramm’s
ability to sire trainable, highly adaptable and versatile Arabians. Add to
this list, several stakes winners and stakes placed horses at the racetrack along
with a handful of promising endurance competitors and you have the portrait of
a sire for all reasons.
At
18 years of age, Monogramm has achieved exactly what was expected of him by
many of the world's leading horsemen. He was a superior show horse -
he is an unparalleled sire. Bishop Lane is proud to be a part of this
magnificent stallion's legacy. We are thankful for the many lives around the
world in which we have shared as a result of Monogramm and his influence. We
invite to join in our celebration of Monogramm's incomparable success and
encourage you to add some of the Monogramm excellence and enthusiasm to your own breeding program.
